The Federal Mine Safety Health Administration (MSHA) requires "new miners" to receive 24 hours of training in specified courses, including: the statutory rights of miners and their representatives under the Mine Act; the use of self-rescue and respiratory devices, where appropriate; hazard recognition; emergency procedures; electrical hazards; and First aid. 30 CFR part 46 & part 48 for Metal/Nonmetal Surface Mining.
